Leica M3 is the camera that defined the modern rangefinder, introduced in 1954 by Ernst Leitz Wetzlar as the first body to use the M-mount bayonet still found on Leica cameras today. This example is the single-stroke variant, adopted from 1958 onward, which cocks the shutter and advances the film in one continuous motion of the lever rather than the earlier double-stroke action. It carries the M3's bright 0.91x viewfinder, combining rangefinder and viewfinder in one window with parallax-corrected 50/90/135mm frame lines, and a cloth focal-plane shutter running from 1s to 1/1000s plus B, set via a single non-rotating speed dial.
Paired with it is the Summicron 50mm f/2 Rigid, the non-collapsible successor to the original Summicron, produced between 1956 and 1968. Its 7-element, 6-group double-Gauss design, single-coated per the period, spans f/2 to f/16 across a 10-blade aperture, with focus down to 1 metre and an infinity lock on the focusing ring. Filter thread is the standard E39 (39mm). Included is the lens's dedicated IROOA clip-on hood, the period-correct accessory for the Rigid Summicron.
