The Sony E PZ 18–105mm f/4 G OSS is a standard zoom lens designed for APS-C E-mount cameras, covering a 35mm-equivalent range of 27–158mm. It features a constant f/4 maximum aperture across the entire zoom range, enabling consistent exposure control and predictable depth of field.

The optical design consists of 16 elements in 12 groups, including ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and aspherical elements to optimize resolution, contrast, and chromatic performance. The lens uses Optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization, supporting handheld shooting at slower shutter speeds.

A defining feature is the Power Zoom (PZ) mechanism, allowing smooth, electronically controlled focal length changes, particularly suited for video operation. Focus is driven by an internal focusing system, maintaining a constant physical length during operation. The minimum focusing distance of 0.45 m enables versatile close-range framing.

The lens employs a 7-blade circular aperture for controlled out-of-focus rendering and includes Sony G-series optics, emphasizing high optical consistency. A 62 mm filter thread, metal mount, and zoom and focus rings optimized for precision control complete the design, making it suitable for both still imaging and video workflows.
