The smc Pentax-FA 645 45-85mm f/4.5 is a standard autofocus zoom for the Pentax 645 medium format system, compatible with both film bodies (645N, 645NII) and digital bodies (645D, 645Z). Its range spans from wide-angle to a slightly long normal, covering the ground of several primes in a single lens, which makes it a practical choice for landscape, travel and general work.
The optical design uses 11 elements in 9 groups with a three-group zoom system for consistent performance across the range, and Pentax's SMC multi-coating. The constant f/4.5 aperture (down to f/32) simplifies manual exposure, while the 8-blade diaphragm helps render out-of-focus areas smoothly. Focus goes down to 0.5 m (0.22x), and switching between AF and MF is done by sliding the focus ring. Angle of view is 76°–44.5° on 645 film and 63°–36° on 645D/645Z. 77 mm filter thread, 815 g.
