The Olympus E-PL7 is a Micro Four Thirds mirrorless digital camera built around a 16.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor and the TruePic VII image processor, delivering high-resolution stills and Full HD 1080p video at 30 fps. Its sensor-shift 3-axis image stabilization effectively compensates for pitch, yaw, and roll movements, ensuring sharp handheld results across various focal lengths.

The camera features a 3.0-inch 1.04M-dot tilting touchscreen LCD, capable of flipping 180° downward for self-portrait operation. The FAST AF system employs 81 contrast-detection points, offering responsive and precise focusing with subject tracking and face/eye priority modes. The built-in Wi-Fi enables remote control and image transfer via the Olympus Image Share app.

The E-PL7 integrates advanced creative controls, including Art Filters, multiple exposure, and interval shooting, within a metal-bodied compact design compatible with all Micro Four Thirds lenses. Its mechanical shutter offers speeds up to 1/4000s, supporting versatile exposure control for both still and motion imaging.

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 14–42mm f/3.5–5.6 EZ is a compact Micro Four Thirds zoom lens designed for portability and versatility. With a focal length equivalent to 28–84mm in 35mm format, it covers wide-angle to short telephoto perspectives, making it suitable for everyday use. Its electronic zoom mechanism allows smooth and precise focal length adjustments, particularly useful for video recording.

The optical construction consists of 8 elements in 7 groups, including ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and aspherical elements to minimize aberrations and maintain image clarity across the zoom range. A 7-blade circular diaphragm contributes to natural background blur. The minimum focusing distance is 20 cm at the wide end, supporting close-up shooting with a maximum magnification of 0.23x (0.46x equivalent in 35mm terms).
