The New Mamiya 6 is an interchangeable-lens 6x6 medium format rangefinder camera designed for 120 and 220 roll film, producing 12 or 24 exposures with a 56x56mm actual negative size. Its signature engineering feature is a collapsible lens mount that retracts 15mm into the body, reducing the camera depth with the standard lens attached from 106mm to 75mm for portable transport. An integrated internal dark slide enables mid-roll lens changes while mechanical safety interlocks prevent accidental shutter release when the mount is retracted. The viewfinder features a coupled superimposed rangefinder with a 60mm base length (34.8mm effective) and automatic parallax-corrected framelines. Paired with the Mamiya G 75mm f/3.5 L lens (roughly a 41mm equivalent in 35mm format), the optical assembly comprises 6 elements in 4 groups with a 1m minimum focus distance, f/22 minimum aperture, and 58mm filter thread. Each lens houses an electronic #00 leaf shutter offering speeds from 4 seconds to 1/500 sec plus Bulb, allowing flash sync at all speeds. Exposure control runs via Aperture Priority AE and manual modes using a viewfinder Silicon Photo Diode meter (ISO 25–1600, ±2 EV compensation in 1/3 steps), powered by two SR44 or LR44 batteries for a combined weight of 1,140g.
