The Konica Hexar AF is a fixed-lens 35mm compact camera featuring an integrated 35mm f/2 Hexanon lens, known for its high resolving power and consistent optical performance. The lens construction incorporates multi-coating to maintain contrast and color accuracy under varied lighting conditions.

The camera employs a passive autofocus system with high precision and rapid acquisition, complemented by a programmed AE exposure system with a vertically traveling electronic shutter offering a wide range of speeds. It includes DX-coded film recognition and supports manual ISO setting overrides. The quiet film advance mechanism is electronically controlled, ensuring smooth operation. A bright optical viewfinder with frame lines and status indicators supports accurate composition, while integrated motorized film transport and automatic rewind streamline operation.
