The Hasselblad Meter Knob, catalogue no. 54011, officially the Film Winding Knob with Exposure Meter, is a selenium-cell exposure meter made by Gossen in Germany and built into a Hasselblad V System winding knob. It locks on by bayonet in place of the standard knob on bodies with an interchangeable winding knob, such as the 500C, 500C/M and 503CX, and detaches with one press so readings can be taken close to the subject.
The selenium cell needs no battery: light falling on the honeycomb window drives the movement directly, while the mirrored scale lets the needle be read without parallax error. Sliding the white diffuser over the cell switches the meter from reflected-light reading, with roughly a 50° acceptance angle, to incident-light reading. Values are indicated in EV/LV and transfer directly to the EV scale of Hasselblad lenses for immediate aperture and shutter combinations.
