The Nikon Nikkor-SW 90mm f/4.5 is a large format wide-angle lens for 4x5 view and technical cameras, giving a field of view roughly equivalent to a 24mm lens on 35mm film. It uses a 7-element, 4-group super-wide design housed in a Copal No. 0 shutter, with an 82mm front filter thread.
Nikon rated the SW line at 105–106° of coverage when stopped down: the image circle expands from 154mm at f/4.5 to 235mm at f/16, which leaves generous room for rise, fall, shift and swing on 4x5 and is sufficient to cover 5x7. The fast maximum aperture is the practical advantage over the f/8 SW version — the ground glass stays bright for composing and critical focusing in dark interiors or at dusk, at the cost of a larger, heavier barrel. A classic architectural, interior and landscape optic, at home on Sinar, Linhof, Toyo, Wista and similar monorail and field cameras, mounting on a standard Copal 0 lens board.
