The Nikon Super Coolscan LS-4000 ED is a dedicated 35mm film scanner built for professional digitization workflows. A 4-element ED glass lens delivers an optical resolution of 4000 dpi, resolving fine grain structure from color negatives, black-and-white film, and mounted slides. A 14-bit analog-to-digital converter supports a density range up to Dmax 4.2, capturing detail across shadow areas of dense negatives. Connectivity is via IEEE 1394 FireWire. Film handling uses the SA-21 strip film and slide adapter, with compatibility for the optional SF-200 automatic slide feeder and MA-20 mounted slide adapter for batch scanning.
Key to its output quality is Digital ICE, Nikon's infrared defect-detection system, paired with Digital ROC color restoration and Digital GEM grain management, together forming Digital ICE³.
