The lens design is supported by a multi-aspect ratio sensor, allowing images to be captured natively in 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, and 1:1 formats without significant cropping.

For composition, the D-Lux 4 integrates a 3.0-inch LCD monitor with 460k dots, offering clear image preview and menu navigation. An optional external optical viewfinder can be mounted via the hot shoe for traditional framing.
