The Contax 645 is a medium format SLR system designed for 120/220 film, delivering a 6×4.5 cm image area. It features a modular construction with interchangeable film backs, finders, and focusing screens. The camera incorporates an electronically controlled focal-plane shutter with speeds from 32s to 1/4000s, and supports TTL metering via the AE prism finder, enabling aperture-priority autoexposure. Autofocus operation is driven by an integrated motor system, with central AF point optimized for precision. Flash synchronization is available up to 1/125s, with full compatibility for dedicated TTL flash units.

Paired with it, the Carl Zeiss Sonnar T 140mm f/2.8* is a short telephoto lens designed specifically for the Contax 645 mount. Its Sonnar optical formula ensures high contrast, controlled aberrations, and uniform sharpness across the frame. The lens features a maximum aperture of f/2.8, enabling shallow depth of field control and effective subject isolation. The T multi-coating* minimizes reflections and enhances light transmission. Autofocus coupling with the body allows precise focusing, while the optical construction is optimized for the larger medium format image circle, maintaining image consistency and tonal gradation.
