The Samyang 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye CS II for Canon EF-S mount is a manual focus ultra-wide-angle lens designed for APS-C format DSLRs. It features a 180° diagonal angle of view, producing pronounced barrel distortion typical of fisheye optics, making it well-suited for creative, architectural, and interior photography.
Optically, the lens incorporates 10 elements in 7 groups, including one hybrid aspherical element, which helps control chromatic aberrations and improve sharpness across the frame. The optical design supports good image clarity and contrast, particularly in center areas.
The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.3 meters, enabling exaggerated perspective effects at close range. The f/3.5 maximum aperture allows reasonable light intake for wide-angle scenes, while the manual aperture ring enables adjustment from f/3.5 to f/22 in precise, clicked increments.
The CS II version is equipped with a removable petal-shaped lens hood, allowing full circular fisheye rendering when used on full-frame with the hood off, or protection and partial shading on APS-C.
Construction is solid, with a metal lens mount and a smooth-turning manual focus ring. The lens accepts gelatin rear filters, as the bulbous front element does not accommodate traditional front-mounted filters.
Compatible with Canon EF-S mount APS-C DSLRs, it provides an equivalent focal length of approximately 12.8mm. It is fully manual, with no electronic contacts, so aperture and focus are set manually on the lens body.
