The Sony FE 28–70mm f/3.5–5.6 OSS is a full-frame standard zoom lens designed for Sony E-mount cameras. Covering a versatile focal range from 28mm wide-angle to 70mm short telephoto, it provides flexibility for landscapes, portraits, and everyday photography.

The optical design consists of 9 elements in 8 groups, including 3 aspherical elements and 1 extra-low dispersion (ED) glass element, effectively reducing chromatic aberrations and maintaining sharpness across the frame. A 7-blade circular diaphragm contributes to smooth background defocus and pleasing bokeh rendering.

The lens integrates Optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization, enabling clearer handheld shots at slower shutter speeds by minimizing camera shake. Autofocus performance is handled by an internal focusing system with a linear motor, ensuring fast, quiet, and accurate focusing—well-suited for both stills and video.

It features a minimum focusing distance of 0.3 m at 28mm and 0.45 m at 70mm, with a maximum magnification ratio of 0.19x, allowing for close-up versatility within its zoom range. The filter thread measures 55mm, accommodating a wide selection of filters.

Designed for portability, the lens is compact and lightweight, making it an efficient general-purpose zoom for full-frame systems while maintaining compatibility with APS-C bodies, where it offers a 42–105mm equivalent focal length.
