It has a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and a minimalist optical design consisting of 5 elements in 5 groups. The lens emphasizes portability and is well-suited for casual wide-angle photography, including street, landscape, and architecture.
The lens is compatible with optional dedicated adapters, including the Sony VCL-ECF1 fisheye converter. When attached, the fisheye adapter transforms the lens into an ultra-wide fisheye with an approximate 10mm equivalent focal length (around 15mm full-frame equivalent), creating a pronounced hemispherical distortion and a field of view near 180°. The adapter is optically matched to the lens and attaches via a bayonet mount on the front, retaining autofocus and exposure functionality.
Physically, the lens has an aluminum outer barrel with a plastic mount, contributing to a total weight of approximately 67g (without the adapter). With the fisheye converter attached, handling remains relatively lightweight and compact.
