The 7artisans 7.5mm f/2.8 is a fully manual fisheye prime lens designed for Micro Four Thirds (M4/3) mirrorless systems, where it delivers a 180° diagonal field of view and an equivalent focal length of 15mm in 35mm format. It is optimized for creative wide-angle distortion and spherical perspective effects, often used in experimental, action, or landscape photography where a strong visual impact is desired.
The optical formula consists of 11 elements in 8 groups, including high refractive index glass to control aberrations and maintain contrast across the exaggerated field of view. The lens features a 7-blade diaphragm, and while bokeh is generally not a primary concern for fisheye designs, it can still produce a stylized rendering at close focus distances. The maximum aperture of f/2.8 allows for reasonable low-light performance and flexibility in exposure settings.
The lens is manual focus and manual aperture only, with no electronic contacts, so aperture and focus must be set directly on the lens barrel. Minimum focusing distance is 12 cm, enabling extreme close-up wide-angle shots with strong foreground emphasis. The lens has a built-in petal-style hood and a fixed front element that prevents the use of traditional front-mounted filters. The all-metal construction offers solid durability, and the lens is compact and lightweight at approximately 265 grams, with a length of around 55 mm. Despite its simplicity, the 7.5mm f/2.8 provides sharpness suitable for high-resolution sensors when stopped down, and is valued for its affordability and unique visual rendering.
