The Canon PowerShot SX200 IS is a compact digital camera built around a 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor with 12.1 megapixels (effective). It uses a DIGIC 4 image processor, providing support for features like i-Contrast, Face Detection, and improved noise handling for its time.

The camera features a 12x optical zoom lens, covering a 28–336mm equivalent focal range, with an aperture of f/3.4–f/5.3. The lens incorporates optical image stabilization (IS) to compensate for hand shake, especially useful at the long end of the zoom.

Autofocus is contrast-detect based, with selectable modes including Face Detect AF, Center AF, and Tracking AF. Macro focusing is available down to 0 cm at the wide end.

The 3.0-inch LCD display has 230,000 dots and covers full frame, with adjustable brightness but no touchscreen or articulation. Menus are typical of Canon’s compact series of the era, with simple access to manual overrides.

Manual exposure controls are included—P, Av, Tv, and M modes—giving full creative control despite the compact form factor. ISO sensitivity ranges from 80 to 1600, with a maximum shutter speed of 15 seconds and minimum of 1/1600s.

The built-in flash is pop-up mechanical (spring-loaded), with a range of up to 3.5 meters at ISO Auto. It supports slow sync and red-eye correction.
